About Us

They’ve been called The Greatest Generation: the 16 million
Americans who fought World War II and built the country we have today. That legacy is disappearing. Few World War II veterans are still alive; soon there will be no one left to tell their stories. B-17 Alliance Foundation was formed in 2006 to keep that legacy alive. We are restoring the B-17G “Lacey Lady” to airworthy condition and building a WWII Education Center to preserve the history of World War II to inspire generations. People are the real legacy -While the Lacey Lady is the most visible aspect of this project, the real story is about people: we are preserving the memory of our World War II heroes for future generations. Since moving the world famous Gas Station Bomber to the Salem Airport B-17 Alliance Foundation has established a restoration hangar and a growing WWII memorial education center to return the Lacey Lady to her original flying glory. Volunteer crews continue to grow and the restoration is well underway. This B-17 has the lowest air miles of any B-17 under restoration in the world. Our funding has come primarily from private donors, but our efforts would not have been successful without volunteer support. Engineers, machinists, mechanics, and aviation enthusiasts have donated thousands of hours and dollars to help make our vision a reality. Don’t let our heroes be forgotten with skillful budgeting, the Alliance has accomplished much, but we need your help. We estimate $9 million will be needed to finish restoration and open a new museum. Your donation is tax-deductible.
