- Rep Drazan is working to ensure the process of redistricting is fair and balanced.
- We need maps that respect communities of common interest, don’t cross geographic or political boundaries, and maintain roughly equal populations.
- Redistricting will determine the next 10 years of elections and representation, so it must be an open and transparent process.
- As reported by Axios, Oregon is labeled as a high risk for gerrymandering. We need a bipartisan process to reduce that risk and participation at the upcoming public hearings.
- Oregon should have legislator representation that more closely reflects actual voting behavior. Democrats hold more than 60 percent of House and Senate seats and 80 percent of congressional seats. Yet in statewide races, Republicans consistently receive closer to 50 percent of the vote, and in 2016 a Republican even won the statewide race for Secretary of State.
