We’re excited to announce a new full-time opportunity at The Waverley Café (name TBD), a privately owned café located in our newest community, Birnam Oaks at Waverley Greens Apartments.

Nestled on 26 wooded acres in Historic Downtown Milwaukie, Waverley Greens Apartments feature seven distinct communities and beautifully maintained grounds. This new café is designed to enhance the resident experience by offering thoughtfully crafted beverages and food in a warm, community-centered environment.

Cafe Lead – Full-Time | Wednesday through Sunday
We are looking for a passionate and skilled individual to join our team as a Cafe Lead. This full-time position plays a key role in providing a welcoming, high-quality café experience to our residents and guests.

As a Cafe Lead, you’ll prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including specialty coffees, teas, smoothies, and light food items such as soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods. You’ll also educate customers on menu offerings, make personalized recommendations, and contribute to a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This is a Wednesday through Sunday position that requires availability for morning, evening, and some holiday shifts.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: Greet guests warmly and create a positive, community-minded experience.

Menu Knowledge: Offer guidance on ingredients and preparation methods; promote specials and new items.

Order Accuracy: Take and fulfill orders precisely, accommodating dietary needs and preferences.

Beverage & Food Prep: Prepare drinks and food items consistently and attractively, following all safety standards.

Payment Handling: Process payments accurately using a POS system.

Cleanliness & Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workstation; assist in basic equipment upkeep.

Inventory & Ordering: Assist the Property Manager with ordering and inventory tracking.

Health & Safety: Follow all food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines.

Feedback Loop: Communicate customer insights and suggestions to improve the café experience.

Team Support: Collaborate with coworkers and maintain a positive, solution-oriented attitude.

What We’re Looking For
Experience
1–2 years of experience as a Cafe Lead or in food service/customer-facing roles.

Familiarity with espresso machines, brewing equipment, and food prep.

Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer use.

Skills
Strong customer service and communication skills.

Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.

Ability to manage time efficiently and maintain composure under pressure.

Basic math for handling transactions.

Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Attributes
Friendly, trustworthy, and self-motivated.

Dependable and punctual.

Flexible with shift hours, including holidays.

Strong work ethic with a commitment to excellence.

Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid Clackamas County food handler’s card.

Current or ability to obtain OLCC certification.

Positive professional references.

Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Schedule
This is a full-time position, working Wednesday through Sunday with varying shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, and holidays. Regular attendance and flexibility are essential.
